how the Supreme Court falls just shy of endorsing marriage equality.

In its recent ruling, the Supreme Court of India has taken certain measures to safeguard same-sex unions from discrimination and has conferred certain legal rights upon them. However, upon closer examination, the Court's stance appears to be more of a temporary arrangement, offering protection to a limited set of rights but falling short of granting full recognition to same-sex marriages. Interestingly, the Chief Justice's viewpoint did not align with that of at least three of his colleagues, and what's puzzling about the judgment is its inconsistency with its own underlying rationale. This decision is likely to extend the ongoing and challenging journey towards establishing an environment in which same-sex couples can lead their lives without apprehension, enjoying the full freedom and equal recognition they deserve.
